Mudras
Mudras can be especially helpful. Mudras help by redirecting the energies of the hands into the chakra or energy pattern of one's choosing.

The 7th (Crown Chakra):
Have the tips of your index finger touching each other, and the tips of your thumb touching together, forming a "spade" symbol.

The Third Eye (an extension of the 6th chakra)
The Third Eye Mudra:
When doing this Mudra, place your hand around the opposite hand's index finger. For those are right-handed, place your right hand around left index finger. For those who are left-handed, place your left hand around your right index finger. Press the middle of your thumb's fingernail against the side of your index finger, where the cuticle ends. Feel around for an electrical shock. Do not fret, some who have less sensitivity or bio-electricity may not feel it at first. This is a good all-around mudra to use.

The 5th (Throat) Chakra:
Interlock the fingers. Do not go forth with the mudra if it is painful for you. Interlock the fingers to where it is comfortable for you. Have the thumbs touching side by side on top of the hands. Do not cross the thumbs.

The 4th (Heart Chakra):
When doing this Mudra, have your arms crossed, right arm over the left arm, as shown in the above right picture. Touching the tips of your ring finger, pinky, and thumb together, extending the other two fingers outwards, as shown in the above left illustration. Place the fingertips of the ring, pinky, and thumb touching your shoulders. A "guarding" of the all-important heart chakra.

The 1st (Base) Chakra:
Place your hands as shown in the above left picture. Having the tips of the index fingers touching each other, and the tips of the pinky fingers touching each other, forming a "Goat Horns" image. Press the thumbs together; side by side, down to the fleshy part known as the "Mount of Venus". Do not cross the thumbs. Press the inner two fingers together, as shown in the above right picture. Pads touching (Personally, I like to curl the inner two fingers). I am not too certain, but I find it more "breathable" in keeping the lunar mount of the palms open and not touching together.

Sa-Ta-Na-Ma (or Sa-Ta-Na-Ss?) Mudras:
Classic mudras used for meditating. From my feel on the matter, the index finger is of the earth element, the middle finger is of the water element, ring finger is of the fire element, pinky is of the air element. Thumb being of the Quintessence/Akasha/Ether/Spirit/Classic element.

Above is a nice, relaxed, easy mudra one may use for when meditating, especially when sitting in the classic or lotus meditation asana (sitting with legged crossed). Hands cusped, right over left, thumbs touching, hands softly rested on the lap.

All in all, feel free to be flexible and open-minded about the mudras. Experiment with them. Move around a little. Stretch the fingers before doing them. Stiffness of the fingers typically means poor circulation and ineffective results. Get a feel for the mudras, as you may learn what positions work well for you in redirecting the energies of the hands into a specific chakra or energy pattern.
